We are delighted to invite you to an American Club dinner speech with Dr. Richard Herzinger at the Park Hyatt Hamburg.

Dr. Herzinger is currently the Political Editor for Welt am Sonntag and his column also appear in Die Welt. In 2003-2004, he was Editor and Journalist for Die Zeit and afterwards the Germany correspondent for the weekly magazine from Zurich, Weltwoche. He also writes for Neue Zürcher Zeitung, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the Tagesspiegel, the Merkur, the Jüdische Allgemeine und the Jungle World.

Richard Herzinger is well-known and is considered a household name in Germany. He will speak about the Role of the United States and Russia in Syria. We are delighted to invite you to an American Club dinner speech with Prof. Dr. Claudia Schnurmann.

Prof. Schnurmann was recipient of the OAH Prize for the world’s best non-English speaking study of North American history by the Organization of American Historians in 2001. She completed her studies at the University of Cologne and the Georgia Augusta Göttingen and has published on many topics related to America and Hamburg, including on migration history from the 15th to 21st centuries. Currently in print is A Sea of Love: The Atlantic Correspondence of Francis and Mathilde Lieber, 1839-1845.

Since 2003, Prof. Schnurmann has been Chair of North American, Atlantic and Caribbean Modern History at the University of Hamburg. The Professor will speak about Hamburg-America-line(s): Fruitful Contacts between Hamburg and the USA since 1776. You can find out some more history here.

We are delighted to invite you to an American Club Visit to Airbus in Hamburg-Finkenwerder on Thursday, May 17 at 2 p.m.
A titan of the aerospace industry, Airbus recently delivered its 10,000th aircraft, racking up over 110 million flights, carrying 12 billion passengers. The corporation had revenues of € 66 billion last year, with Hamburg as a major final assembly production site. Airbus Operations GmbH is the largest company in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region’s with 12,700 employees (2015 figures).

Program
2:00 p.m.  — We will board the HADAG Ferry 68 at Teufelsbrück (if you plan to arrive by car from the south side of the Elbe please contact us for further instructions). Look for the American flag holder.
2:15 p.m. — Upon arriving at the ferry gate Elbtor in Finkenwerde, we will head to building 25 to be welcomed and given a short presentation by Gunnar Groß, General Secretary of Airbus Operations GmbH.
3:00 p.m. — Facility Tour of Airbus, including:

  • Hangar 8: Section equipping A320-Family
  • Hangar 9: Final assembly line A320-Family
  • Hangar 260: A380 section assembly & equipping
  • Hangar 242: Cabin Equipment Installation A380

The German trade surplus is often criticized by international trade partners, also by the United States of America. Is the imbalance only a problem for German trade partners? Or does it harm the German economy as well? What are the reasons for export surplus? We are going to discuss this with Professor Wade Jacoby, Professor of Political Science at Brigham Young University. He will give a speech on the controversial topic of trade surplus or “Surplus Germany” from an American perspective.

We are pleased to invite you to a guided tour on the USS Mount Whitney on June 16 at 9:20 am in Kiel.

REGISTRATION NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE 5:30 TODAY, JUNE 13TH! 

Usually stationed in Gaeta, Italy, the flagship of the United States Sixth Fleet pays Kiel a visit during the annual Kieler Woche on its way back to Italy from the annual Baltops maneuver.

All participants are expected at the Hauptwache of the Marinestützpunkt in Kiel (Kiellinie 249, 24106 Kiel) until 9:20 am on June 16 and must bring their ID/Passports with them. The tour will start at 10 am.

Register simply by eMail to assistant@americanclub.de stating your name(s), nationality, date of birth, ID/Ausweisnummer as well as your cell phone number. This is an absolute necessity, without these details, no access will be granted.

We are happy to announce that there won’t be a participation fee for this event.
